I used to run into this issue alot when I did desktop support at an old job. The desktop would be extremely slow to the point of being unusable. Even rebooting did not fix the slowness. When looking at the CPU usage via task manager is was maxed out at 100%. The issue was print jobs that were inadvertently sent to the MS Image Writer printer. Once the jobs were canceled the CPU returned to normal and everything ran fine. Note that even rebooting the machine would not clear the jobs from the queue you had to actually go in and delete them.

If you are using a laptop to project a live web stream of some sort like a webinar sometimes the streaming video will be seen on screen but will not be seen when used through a projector. A quick fix is to turn down the hardware acceleration on the display adapter. Right click the desktop and go to properties, settings tab, advanced button, troubleshooting tab, slide it one notch and test, keep doing that until the video display.

Check the BIOS setting sata controller mode option and switch from compability to ahci mode. In my case I use Ghost v8 to image the laptop. The process is to boot using a Bartpe CD with Ghost and connect to a Ghostcast server to get the image. In order for the Bartpe CD to recognize the hard drive you have to switch the BIOS setting from ahci to compability and then when you are done putting the image on you have to switch it back otherwise you'll get just a black screen after the XP splash screen.

Boot to ghost 2003 cd\support gdisk, gdisk 1 /act /pri:1 to set the first partition as the active one or use fdisk and set partition 1 to active and run fdisk /mbr
